About Kuwait-America Foundation
The Kuwait-America Foundation (KAF), established in May
1991 in Washington, D.C.,
was created to express gratitude for American sacrifice
during the Gulf War and strengthen ties among the
peoples of the two countries.
KAF has particularly focused its resources on
education, cultural exchange and programs for youth and
disadvantaged persons.
All KAF events and programs communicate the
sincere desire of the people of
Kuwait
to have a lasting and strong relationship at a
grass-roots level with the United States.
KAF endeavors to achieve many missions.
Among its most notable achievements is a program
to reduce youth violence among children in
America, the “Do the
Write Thing” Challenge Program.
The “Challenge’s” Reach
The “Challenge” began as a pilot program in Washington, D.C.
in 1994 with approximately 500 students writing essays.
Since then an estimated one million students have
participated in the “Challenge.” Over 350,000 of these
students have accepted the “challenge” to make a
personal written commitment not to engage in violence
and to write about their experiences on the causes of,
and solutions to, the problem of violence.
The “Challenge” is currently in 31 major U.S. cities in 17 states.
