The Kuwait Prize

In fulfillment of the objectives of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) in supporting scientific research and encouraging scholars and researchers in Kuwait and all other Arab countries, KFAS awards prizes in the fields of Sciences, Arts and Letters, Economic and Social Studies and the Arabic and Islamic Scientific Heritage.

KFAS prizes are designed to recognize intellectual achievements that serve the interest of scientific advancement and support efforts to raise the standard of culture in various fields.

 Two prizes are awarded annually. One for Kuwaiti citizens and the other for citizens of Arab countries, in each of the following fields:

  1. Basic Sciences,

  2. Applied Sciences,

  3. Economic and Social Sciences,

  4. Arts and Letters,

  5. Arabic and Islamic Scientific Heritage,

The area of specific specialization varies every year. In the Basic Sciences for instance; Chemistry was selected in the first year, Biology in the second and Physics in the third. The prize is awarded to one (or more) researchers who have considerably contributed original, distinguished and published work in the last ten years in the field of the prize.

The prize comprises of a cash sum of  K.D. 30.000 (Thirty Thousand Kuwaiti Dinars) Approx. U.S.$ 100.000 (One Hundred Thousand U.S. Dollars), the KFAS shield, and a certificate of recognition.

Conditions of Submission:

The successful candidate should satisfy the following conditions:

  1. The work submitted should be ORIGINAL, published during the last ten years and academically significant in the announced field,

  2. The candidate should submit FOUR copies of his work, a complete curriculum vitae and updated list of publications,

  3. The candidates should not have been awarded a prize for the submitted work by any other institution.

Conditions of Awarding the Prize:

  1. KFAS will announce fields of the Prizes and requirements each year, and will send invitation for nominations to universities and academic institutions,

  2. KFAS will consider nominations from individuals, universities, learned societies, scientific center, past recipients of the prizes and peers of the nominees,

  3. Nominations from political institutions will not be accepted,

  4. KFAS decisions concerning the prizes are final and the submitted work will nont be returned to candidates (Successful or otherwise).
