Oxford Center for Islamic Studies

An agreement was signed in 1997 with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies whereby KFAS agreed to establish and endow The Kuwait International Programme for Islamic Studies.  The revenue of the Endowment Fund is used to finance the annual expenditures of the Programme which has two components, the Kuwait Senior Fellowship and the Kuwait Graduate Studentship

  1. The Kuwait Senior Fellowship – provides a salary at the professorial level, including all social security and pension costs, plus secretarial and research support.

  2. Two Kuwait Graduate Studentship is to be used to encourage those undertaking research degrees at Oxford or engaged in advanced study, teaching and research at Oxford by the provision of maintenance, travel grants and research support together with, where appropriate, tuition and other fees.

During the period 2002 - 2007, KFAS funded the establishment of the Kuwait Library at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in Oxford University.  The Kuwait Library has made invaluable contributions to the Library resources at Oxford.  As a Library of international reputation the Kuwait Library maintains a large collection of books, journals and manuscripts, across a number of disciplines, from classical works on the Quran to the modern social sciences.

It contains a wide range of texts on classical Islamic subjects, and on contemporary Muslim societies in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas. These works are in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Malay, Turkish, English and other European languages.

About the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is a Recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. It was established in 1985 to encourage the scholarly study of Islam and the Islamic world. Beyond Oxford, its role is strengthened by a developing international network of academic contacts. The work of the Centre has already attracted global attention and widespread support.
