Strategic Plan
KFAS management developed a new strategic plan and
presented it to the Board of Directors in 2010. The new
plan identified the current areas of weakness and went a
long way toward developing a strategy that would meet
the future needs of Kuwait’s STI system. The details of
the 2010 strategic plan will be presented as an appendix
in the final strategic planning document (to be
submitted by the end of 2011) so that the evolution of
the planning process can be documented and understood.
In
2011, a new director General was appointed and the high
level strategy was reviewed and updated taking into
account the comments and suggestions of the Board. This
new updated strategy is a result of extensive meetings
and input from the management team at KFAS and its
Centers and represents the latest thinking on the STI
needs of Kuwait; the proper role of KFAS and its Centers
in meeting those needs; and a more systematic approach
to initiating programs for KFAS funding. The updated
high-level strategy including the new vision, mission,
and strategic thrusts are presented below.
Vision
“An effective Science, Technology and
Innovation System and Culture, to which KFAS has
contributed, that underpins the sustainable development
of the State of Kuwait”
Mission
"Stimulate, support, and invest in initiatives and human
resources that contribute to the building of a strong
STI system and culture and fostering an enabling
environment"
The initiatives include improving public understanding of science;
strengthening innovation and research capacity and
enhancing the enabling cultural environment; supporting
the gifted and talented; translating knowledge into
innovation; and encouraging more private technological
capability
Strategic Thrust Areas
KFAS management has developed a strategy that will guide
decision making on how to invest its limited resources
to fulfill its mission and achieve its vision with
maximum impact and minimum risk. The strategy is to
identify and address development and human resource
needs of different elements of the Science, Technology
and Innovation system in the following areas:

Education and Scientific Culture.

– Enhancing and integrating R&D Capacity in and
among Kuwaiti Scientific Institutions.

Scientific and Technological Capabilities and
Participate in Building a Knowledge Economy.
