KFAS announces the opening of nominations for the 2022 (Kuwait) Award

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) announced that it is receiving submissions of researchers from Kuwait and other Arab countries to apply for the 2022 (Kuwait) Award, which the Foundation awards annually in five fields with the value of 40 thousand Kuwaiti dinars each.

The Director General of the Foundation, Dr. Khaled Al Fadhel, said that the Foundation launched this award in 1979, in accordance with the directives of the wise leadership of the country, to honor Kuwaiti and Arab scientists who had achieved outstanding accomplishments and authentic contributions in their research careers.

He added that the (Kuwait) Award, which is one of the most important Arab and regional awards, aims to contribute to building a solid base for science, technology, and innovation, encouraging researchers, promoting giving and scientific production, and advancing the development process in the Arab world.

The first category of the award is “Basic Sciences “, which focuses on basic medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, human genetics, cell science, pathology, toxicology, and pharmacology. The second category, “Applied Sciences “, focuses on clean and sustainable energy technology such as solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power, biomass energy, hydrogen, fuel cells, energy storage equipment and the mitigation of the effect of carbon in fossil fuels.

The third category, “Economic and Social Sciences “, is concerned with economics, financial and banking sciences such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, development economy, business economics, monetary economy, public finance, corporate finance, project financing, e-commerce, venture capital and financial technology.

 The fourth field of the award, “ Human Science, Arts and Literature “, targets literature and art in the Arab world, which include analytical studies of modern and ancient Arab literary texts ( poetry, theatre and narratology), critical theories, the history of Arabic literature, in various eras, literature of Arab countries and studies in the art of Arab cinema, Arab music and fine arts in the Arab world.

The fifth and final field is “Emerging Specialized Sciences “, which deal with nanomaterial sciences and technology and their applications such as studying and analyzing physical and chemical phenomena at the nanoscale level and designing and producing nanomaterials, their compositions and tools at the nanoscale level and the applications of nanotechnology in sciences, medicine, and engineering.

Those applying for the award must be Arab nationals and have proof of their Arab origin, in addition to being a researcher and a scientist in their field and holding a Doctorate, while applicants in the field of basic sciences without a doctorate degree must have a fellowship.

It is also a condition, of the award, for the scientific production of the candidate to be innovative and vital for the field applied for and published over the past 20 years, and for the scientific production to include research published or acceptable for publication in well-established scientific journals, written or translated or investigated books or a published chapter in a book with an approved International Standard Book Number ( ISBN ).
