The ceremony was held under the patronage and attendance of His Excellency the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Hamid Al-Azmi, and attended by members of KFAS’s Board of Directors, including: Advisor at the Amiri Diwan Dr. Yousef Al-Ibrahim, Professor Fayza Al-Kharafi, Mr. Hani Hussein, Director General Dr. Adnan A. Shihab Eldin, Chairman of the Scientific Center Mr. Sami Al-Rasheed, and a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Education as well as government school principals and the families of the high school students being honored.

Each student was awarded a five-day scientific field trip to Malaysia to visit the largest incubators of industry and technology there, which have come to represent the technology and IT competence for which Malaysia and other similar emerging countries are known globally. This year’s awards also included a gold medal, a cash prize and a laptop, in addition to a free one-year family admission to the Kuwait Scientific Center.

The initiative seeks to motivate those distinguished students toward excellence in their future educational endeavors, as part of KFAS’s efforts to spread a thriving culture of science, technology and innovation (STI) to create a sustainable future for Kuwait.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Hamid Al Azmi, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education, congratulated the graduates and noted that, "This digital age is constantly altering the future of our global economy and its related professions in an unprecedented manner and speed, which dictates a rejuvenation of the younger generations in order to meet the coming needs and requirements."

To this end, His Excellency detailed how “The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, and Kuwait’s higher education institutions have launched various initiatives to enable young people to explore these changes and prepare themselves to assume their responsibilities for sustainable development.”

Addressing his remarks to the honors students, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ibrahim, Advisor at the Amiri Diwan, explained that, "Without a doubt, scientific excellence is a key to success in life, but it is not solely enough to achieve one’s desired excellence and prestige. You must seek out knowledge with an open mind from the various cultures and civilizations of the world, while holding on to our deep-rooted Islamic and Arab identity.”

The Director General of KFAS, Dr. Adnan A. Shihab Eldin, stated in his speech, "Under the guidance of His Highness The Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the foundation is determined to spread scientific culture and provide an enabling environment that encourages the quest for science and knowledge and inspires scientific research. Through this plan, His Highness has continued to give his support to the country’s youth.”

The Director General also discussed how KFAS has entered into bilateral collaborative agreements with many prestigious universities worldwide as a way of giving students an opportunity to discover their unique potential and to unleash their creative energies, with the ultimate aim of providing tangible benefits for society, research and enterprise in Kuwait.
