KFAS in the Sharjah International Book Fair

Nov 02, 2016

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences will participate in the Sharjah International Book Fair, which kicks off today in the UAE.  Dr. Salam Alablani, Director of the Scientific Culture Directorate: "the Foundation in its annual participation in this cultural event extends its communication with the public to introduce the Foundation and its active role in supporting science and creativity, as well as buttressing scientific culture and the grounding of scientific thinking, through exhibiting its new publications of encyclopedias and authored and translated books”.

The foundation’s stall this year boasts a ten-part encyclopedia titled “Timeline for the Advancement of Science and Technology “, which takes the reader on a journey through the history of science. The encyclopedia illustrates, with pictures and figures, the important stages and landmarks of great inventions and discoveries. With the upcoming season of the bird migration to spend the winter in the warmth of our Arab region, the encyclopedia of “Birds of the world” avails rich information about birds and their migration patterns and trails. It presents the reader with information on how to identify the male and female birds. The Abridged Encyclopedia of “Insects of the State of Kuwait” simplifies information through illustrations that help readers identify butterflies among many other amazing insects, next spring.

Dr. Laila al-Musawi, Program Manager of publicizing and disseminating science and technology in the Scientific Culture Directorate, said that the Program has drafted a new strategy to promote community partnership in science dissemination to general readers and specialists based on the incremental shift toward using electronic publishing to maximize the reach to Arab readers as witnessed in having The Journal of Science and the Journal of Scientific Advancement available in electronic versions on smartphones, tablets and computers.

The Directorate has also launched “Kuwait Gate of the Advancement of Sciences” to provide valuable encyclopedic scientific material. Dr. al-Musawi added: “in 2017 we look to continue our path to push electronic transformation forward so that scientific knowledge will be accessible to everyone. KFAS has cemented its partnership with the renowned American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) by signing an MOU to avail scientific data and information in Arabic through the translation and publication of news and selected contents from “Science” and “Science Careers” journals.
