Public attitudes towards science are important in that they help set social priorities, which can advance or impede scientific progress. Scientific knowledge by the public, often called civic scientific literacy (Miller, 2012), is essential for citizens to understand scientific issues that arise and, engage in informed discussions about what public policies regarding these issues should be implemented.
