Evaluation of Dynamic Inductive Charging for Existing Warehouses

Agility Public Warehousing Company and Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences 

The project started with an overview of methods and technologies for contactless energy transfer. After collecting the data of two selected warehouses, a simulation started for comparison of contactless energy charging to plug-based energy charging. The target was the identification of advantages and disadvantages, as well as, economic benefits of the technological study. During the project, testing of new, advanced technology material was preformed. Targeting less consumption of raw material and increase in efficiency production. Results led to the best operation conditions for dynamic inductive charging.

A Brief Description About the Company

Agility is one of the world largest logistics providers with twenty-two thousand employees and operations in one-hundred countries. The company provides logistic services according to customer special needs.

What was the problem you were trying to solve
The goal of the project was to identify/analyze and understand the benefits of a promising technology in the field of energy transfer, which would provide additional value to the company’s customers and advantages to the company’s services.

What was ths science, technology, and innovation (STI) related solution
The company required the testing of new, advanced technology material, as well as less consumption of raw material, and more efficient production. KFAS has helped the company to address these requirements.

Which research institute did you collaborate with
The research institute was Fraunhofer IFAM in Germany, who is specialized in adhesive bonding technology, surfaces, shaping and functional materials.

How did the company work with the research institute
Data collected was preformed by the institute on-site. Issues and next steps were discussed in detailed conference calls allowing all parties to be on the same page.

How did you find about KFAS and the co-funding programs
The program is known due to meetings with KFAS representatives.

KFAS helped by setting up the initial connection to the research institution as well as co-funding and support of the project until completion.

KFAS helped by providing assistance for selection of the right warehouses for the project as well as the purpose of results.

Project Impact

The project indicated the advantages and best working conditions of dynamic inductive charging in the special field of warehouse services. This allows considering this technology in future warehouse projects.
