The Laureate of the Prize is Professor Omar Yaghi, born in Amman, Jordan in 1965. He currently occupies the J. and N. Tretter Chair Professor of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley.
Professor. Yaghi is credited with being the driving force in developing the novel field of MOFs, also known as reticular chemistry, since about 1994. His contribution is enormous, and seminal in establishing and vigorously advancing this whole new field of chemistry, which in the course of the last 20 years has become an extremely popular field of fundamental investigation with potential industrial applications.
