Training Grants Program

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences offers grant opportunities to outstanding Kuwaitis to support their training programs in the following: internships, interim research, post-doctoral research. 

First: General Conditions:

  1. The applicant is a Kuwaiti citizen.
  2. The latest degree must be accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  3. The applicant is unemployed and does not receive salary in Kuwait during the training period.
  4. The applicant has not received any financial support for the same training from a Third Party.
  5. The applicant should be dedicated for a full-time training activity.
  6. The applicant should obtain an acceptance from the training institution.
  7. The training program must be related to the applicant’s former academic work.
  8. The last academic qualification’s major must be within the (STI), Scientific and technology and Innovation’s domain. (To see the list, please click here)
  9. Applications for accepted universities to be in the top 50 universities worldwide based on the (general) ranking or the top 20 worldwide universities (ranking by major) by the sites such as : Times Higher Education, US World News and Reports, QS World University Rankings


Second: Conditions for each Program:

Post-Doctoral Research:

  • Must have completed doctoral degree within 3 years at the time of application submission.
  • The applicant has a GPA equivalent of 3.33 and higher for the four-point system for the last university qualification in medical disciplines and the equivalent of 3.5 and higher for the four-point system for the last university qualification in the technical scientific disciplines.

Interim Research:

  • Applicant has completed last academic degree within 3 years at the time of application submission.

Internship:

  • The applicant must not exceed 35 years old at the time of application submission.
  • The applicant should have obtained a GPA (equivalent to 3.67 and higher for the four-point system) for his/her latest university qualification in technical or scientific specialization within the (STI), Scientific and technology and Innovation’s domain.

Third: Required Documents:

  1. A copy of the civil ID.
  2. A copy of the passport.
  3. A certified copy of the academic degree approved from the Ministry of Higher Education.
  4. A certified copy of the transcript with GPA for the last academic qualification.
  5. A paragraph of 500 words explaining why the applicant is interested in this training program.
  6. An updated curriculum vitae.
  7. An acceptance letter from the university / training institution.
  8. A certificate from the Public Institution for Social Security stating that the applicant is not insured.
  9. Timeline of the training program (certified and obtained from the university / training institute).
  10. A copy of accreditation of the university in which the applicant obtained admission according to The National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality.

Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences offers accepted delegates of these training programs the following benefits:

    • Grant Duration:

    Internship

    The grant duration is limited to a period of 3 to 6 months.                                                                   

    Interim Research

    The grant duration is limited to a period of 3 to 6 months.

    Post-Doctoral

    The grant duration is limited to 12 months.

    • Round trip flight ticket (Economy Class).
    • Medical insurance covering grant duration.

    Additional information:

    If a paper gets published in one of the best 25% (Q1) of international periodical or journals as per the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), a reward is given to the accepted delegate of K.D. 500.
