Training Grants

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences provides Kuwaiti outstanding students pursuing their studies in scientific fields with the opportunity to access training programs through the financial support that the Foundation offers. The activities of these training programs include supporting the students for internships, interim research completion as well as post-doctoral research completion.

First: Conditions for Submission of Grant Requests:

  1. The applicant should be a Kuwaiti citizen.
  2. The applicant should not be older than 35 at the time of applying for the grant for internship activity as well as for the postgraduate research completion (Interim Research) grant.
  3. The applicant should not be older than 40 at the time of applying for the post-doctoral Research grant.
  4. The applicant should have obtained First Class Honours (equivalent to 3.67 and higher for the four-point system) for his latest university qualification in technical or scientific specialization.
  5. The applicant should have obtained Second Class Honours (equivalent to 2.67 and higher for the four-point system) for his latest university qualification in medical specialties.
  6. The last academic qualification of the applicant should be obtained from a university classified (depending on the specialty) among the top two hundred (200) international universities in accordance with the ranking of https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/by-subject
  7. The applicant should not have obtained any financial support for the same training from any other party.
  8. The applicant should be dedicated for a full-time training activity.
  9. The applicant should obtain the approval of the training institution.
  10. The period of training should range from three to six months for professional training activities and postgraduate research completion, and from three to twelve months for the completion of post-doctoral research.

Second: Required documents:

  1. A copy of the civil ID
  2. A copy of the passport
  3. A certified copy of the academic degrees in which the grade is stated
  4. A certified copy of the transcript for the last academic qualification
  5. A paragraph of 500 words explaining the reasons for interest in this scientific field
  6. A curriculum vitae
  7. An acceptance letter from the university / training institution
  8. A certificate from the Public Institution for Social Security
  9. For the latest academic qualification obtained by the applicant, a copy of the university's ranking (according to the speciality) from the website: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/by-subject
  10. The study program schedule (certified and obtained from the university)
  11. Submit evidence that the university where the applicant is accepted and accredited by The National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance. This can be obtained through the website: https://nbaq.edu.kw/search/
  12. A copy of the classification of the university (according to the speciality) that the candidate is applying for. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/by-subject

Additional information:
A symbolic reward is allocated to the applicant and a similar symbolic reward is allocated to the supervising professor as well when the scientific paper is published in one of the best 25% (Q1) of international periodicals and journals (as per the ranking in the scientific field of the student) of the competitive positions of scientific periodicals and journals in accordance with the internationally recognized standards (Journal Citation Reports).

How to apply:

  • Submission of applications is open twice a year for a period of one month
  • The applications should be submitted to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences during the specified announced submission period.
