Training Grants

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences provides Kuwaiti outstanding students pursuing their studies in scientific fields with the opportunity to access training programs through the financial support that the Foundation offers. The activities of these training programs include supporting the students for internships, interim research completion as well as post-doctoral research completion.

First: Conditions for Submission of Grant Requests:

  1. The applicant is a Kuwaiti citizen.
  2. Applications for accepted universities to be in the top 50 universities worldwide based on the (general) ranking or the top 20 worldwide universities (ranking by major) by the sites: Times Higher Education, US World News and Reports.
  3. The applicant must not exceed 35 years of age when applying for (Internship).
  4. The applicant should have obtained a GPA (equivalent to 3.67 and higher for the four-point system) for his latest university qualification in technical or scientific specialization (Internship).
  5. The applicant has a GPA equivalent of 3.33 and higher for the four-point system for the last university qualification in medical disciplines and the equivalent of 3.5 and higher for the four-point system for the last university qualification in the technical scientific disciplines when applying for post-doctoral research completion.
  6. Last academic qualification degree did not pass more than 3 years for (Interim research and Post-Doctoral Research) and be accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  7. The last academic qualification’s major must be within the (STI), Scientific and technology and Innovation’s domain.
  8. The applicant hast not received any financial support for the same training from a Third Party.
  9. The applicant should be dedicated for a full-time training activity.
  10. The applicant should obtain an acceptance from the training institution.
  11. The period of training activity should range from three to six months for Internship & Interim Research activities and a maximum of 12 months to complete Post-doctoral research

Second: Required documents:

  1. A copy of the civil ID
  2. A copy of the passport
  3. A certified copy of the academic degree approved from the Ministry of Higher Education with the GPA stated.
  4. A certified copy of the transcript for the last academic qualification
  5. A paragraph of 500 words explaining why this applicant is interested in this scientific field
  6. A curriculum vitae
  7. An acceptance letter from the university / training institution
  8. A certificate from the Public Institution for Social Security
  9. The timeline of the training program (certified and obtained from the university)
  10. Submit evidence that the university where the applicant is accepted is accredited by The National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance. This can be obtained through the website: https://nbaq.edu.kw/search/
  11. A copy of the classification of the university (according to the major) that the applicant is applying for according to: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/by-subject

Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences offers accepted delegates of these training programs the following benefits:

  1. Monthly bonus during the duration of training:
  • Internship- K.D. 700
  • Interim Research - K.D. 1200
  • Post-Doctoral- K.D. 1400
  1. Round trip flight ticket (Economy Class) and medical insurance covering the duration of the program.

Additional information:
A reward is given to the accepted delegate of K.D. 500 should he/she publishes a paper in one of the best 25% (Q1) of international periodical or magazine as per the Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

How to apply:


  • Submission of applications is open twice a year for a period of one month each time
  • The applications should be submitted to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences during the specified announced submission period.
