Scholarship Bridging Grant (Master's & PhD degrees)

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences offers the Outstanding Academics Program, which aims to encourage and reward outstanding Kuwaitis in scientific fields by providing financial support opportunities for those exceptional students. The activities of this program include partial support for scholarships for master’s degrees and doctoral degrees. This initiative came in response to the needs of a group of outstanding Kuwaitis who obtained unconditional admission to complete their higher studies at prestigious international universities without the necessary and full support from other parties. Accordingly, this initiative came to cover the costs and expenses of study for one academic year (including the summer semester). Provided that the outstanding student covers the financial cost of completing the study for the subsequent years.

First: Conditions for applying for the program:

  1. The applicant must be of Kuwaiti nationality.
  2. The applicant's age must not exceed 35 years when submitting the scholarship application.
  3. The applicant’s latest academic qualification must be accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  4. The specialization must be within the field of science, technology and innovation as defined by the program. (To view the domains, please click here).
  5. The applicant's cumulative GPA must not be less than 3.5 for the four-point system for all specialties, except for medical specialties, where the applicant's cumulative GPA must not be less than 3.33 for the four-point system.
  6. The applicant must obtain an unconditional acceptance for a master’s degree or a doctoral degree from one of the top 50 international universities (general classification) or from one of the top 20 international universities (according to specialization) during the last three years according to one of the accredited international classification websites such as: Times Higher Education, US World News and Report, QS World University Rankings
  7. The university where the applicant was accepted must be an accredited university by the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance through the website:
  8. The applicant did not previously obtain the same academic degree for which he or she is applying.
  9. If there is partial support from another party for the same degree, supplementary support could be obtained to cover the cost of tuition fees and travel costs, in addition to covering the difference in financial allocations (according to the general provisions).
  10. The scholarship is limited to financial support for one academic year (including the summer semester).
  11. Submitting the application, accompanied by all required documents, within the period indicated in the Scholarship announcement.
  12. The university admission must be in the same year as the scholarship.

Second: Required documents:

  1. A copy of the civil ID.
  2. A copy of the passport.
  3. A certified copy of the latest academic qualification accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  4. A certified copy of the transcript of the latest academic qualification in which the cumulative GPA is mentioned.
  5. A paragraph of 500 words showing the reasons for interest in this scientific field.
  6. CV
  7. Acceptance letter from the university.
  8. A certificate from the Public Institution for Social Security.
  9. The study schedule (documented and obtained from the university).

Additional information:

If the scientific paper is published in one of the top 25% of international journals, as estimated by internationally recognized standards, Journal Citation Reports Q1, a symbolic reward of five hundred Kuwaiti dinars (KD 500) will be allocated to the applicant.

How to apply:

  1. Application is open in (April) each year for a month
  2. Applications are submitted to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences during the announced application period.
